Bright & Pastel Hair
Bright and pastel hair colours are all the rage right now on everyone from the teenagers to the more experimental adults. Pastel and bright shades can often require a little more maintenance than your standard blondes and brunette tones as they’re subject to fading faster due to their semi-permanent nature so in this section, we’re going to advise you on how to keep your colour in perfect condition.
Unless you have very light blonde hair already, to achieve the pastel shades and brightest of brights you’re going to need to get your hair to the lightest colour possible. At Hepburns, we use Olaplex which is a bond rebuilder that goes into the inside of the hair strand and basically glues broken bonds back together. It creates a bridge between broken bonds that can make going blonde far less damaging than simply using bleach.
The lighter the hair beneath the colour, the brighter and lighter the colour can go and it allows the pigment to hold on to the shaft for much longer.
With semi permanent colour, it will fade and there’s no question of that. We recommend top ups from 2-4 weeks to keep your colour at its best. However, there are ways to prolong the fade and save your colour from fading too quickly.
– Wash your hair in colder water than usual.
– Wash your hair less – every two to three days should be sufficient and if your hair is especially fine or greasy, we recommend a good dry shampoo between washes to keep you fresh.
– Avoid over processing your hair with heat tools and allow your hair to dry naturally where possible. You can use foam or bristled rollers to create volume and curls without heat.
Bold colours will fade out to more pastel tones within a few weeks and so if you enjoy the more muted tones this brings, you may be able to avoid very regular appointments for maintenance by a few more weeks. Since our Matrix dyes are semi-permanent, they will wash out completely and for any stubborn colours such as blue and green which can stain the hair a little more, we do have colour remover in the salon which is less damaging than re-bleaching and can remove even the most stubborn of tones to return you to blonde or to a base where any other colour of your choice can be put on in replacement.
