Environmental factors such as sun, wind and cold air causes your lips to become chapped and dry. As tempting as it can be to pick and lick the dry skin, this will only prevent your lips from healing and may also develop into a cold sore if you are prone to getting them.
At Health and Serenity, we recommend that you use a daily sunscreen of a minimum of SPF40 plus on both your face and lips followed by a good quality lip balm, containing shea butter, which you would need to reapply frequently throughout the day. Try to avoid any other product on your lips whilst they are chapped as the remedy is to keep introducing moisture into this delicate area, but NOT Saliva.
